Rather than giving you a boring inclusivity policy to read, we’re going to speak from heart about something that means a great deal to us at MesserFest.
Our event exists as a safe space. There is far too much “alpha-male” fuelled toxic masculinity and macho bravado in the world of martial arts and this actively excludes people from participating, and we live in a very unequal society and this is something that we strive to improve to the best of our abilities.
We want our event to be as fun and friendly as possible, and feel it is important as a member of the HEMA community and attendee at MesserFest that you work with us to help create a safe and welcoming space. Pronouns should be respected and if in doubt, please ask people what their personal pronouns are. (We all make mistakes, apologise, learn and move forward). Deadnames should be ignored. Xenophobic, racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist and similar bigoted views are entirely unacceptable and will result in expulsion from the event and banning from any future events.
HEMA is diverse and fabulous and a great martial art for everyone let’s keep it that way!
